Mary Ruth Walker Scurlock, 102, passed away the morning of March 20, 2023 at home.
Ruth was born October 19,1920 to Henry and Laura Scurlock in Santa Paula. She attended Santa Paula High School and graduated in 1939.
In the 50’s she moved the family to Fillmore and loved it, and with the exception of world travels, never left. If you’ve lived in Fillmore for any length of time you have most likely run across her--her quick wit and sharp memory, maybe at Henry’s, the chamber of commerce, the historical museum, or alumni banquets wearing one of her cardinal red outfits, many local events or maybe Elkins Ranch Golf Course where she was known for making great burgers!
She enjoyed hearing about people as well as sharing stories and could recite details that even those who lived it often forgot about.
She was preceded in death by many. A couple that hit her particularly hard; her son Don E. Imhoof and her youngest grandson Andrew J. Benavidez.
She is survived by her 2 daughters and son, Donna Duval, Gloria Benavidez and Ken Imhoof; 6 grandsons, Mark & Josh Duval, Michael & Patrick Benavidez, Shawn & Ron Imhoof; 2 great-grandsons, Jason & Nathaniel Benavidez; 3 great-granddaughters, Madison & Jacie Imhoof and Brittney Ellington.
She requested no services. The family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Fillmore Historical Museum.
