To the Editor:
You’ve discovered my fetish! God help me, I want to stop, but I can’t! Week after week, Trump entices by expelling so many strange utterances, and things. Lately, reveries on the virility of male Republican homo sapiens. Last week, it was apparent-beefcake Bobby Kennedy. “Did anybody ever see the build? The body on Bob?” Because it is my fixation to impart as many of our president’s behaviors as a generous word count will allow, I am hopelessly compelled when they become a meme. If Trump will stop, I will be cured! While his private fantasies are not a “disorder,” his compulsion to share every loins-warming thought reveals him as a dangerously narcissistic blabbermouth with nuclear codes.
The nation has changed since the last time we convened a national election. Our president’s self-proclaimed “world’s hottest economy” wouldn’t soft-boil a middle-class egg (though the billionaires are more hard-boiled than ever). We now know many of the national offenses deployed by Trump and his administration, from election 2000 denial and insurrection, corruption on a “never before seen in history” level, to egoistic, costly, and unconstitutional tariffs, a war and oil price raises, to the dragnet, and inhumane detention and deportation of otherwise law-abiding long-term residents, even children and babies.
There is no need, at this point, to revisit all the now-undeniable international offenses of the Trump administration, leaving us with uncertain allies except for the scheming, rapacious Netanyahu. One glaring update. Our president has now made it clear that he is deeply aligned with Russian interests and, in our names, has advanced Federation objectives by withholding intelligence and defensive arms to Ukraine.
It is finally conceded that Musk decided the disarmament or compromise of US Starlink-related defenses of Ukraine. Trump is indifferent or uncomprehending that he relinquished immense power to a non-governmental, massively wealthy, malignantly manipulative, likely insane, individual to make a strategic military decisions against US interests. The ghost of Benedict Arnold. Robust, immediate Congressional action must intervene, and we know Republicans will not do it.
Trump has said unusually cruel or strange things just before the midterms. Warned by his advisors not to brag that the US oil and gas industry is making billions of dollars in the Iran war, urged to be sympathetic to American pain over gas/diesel prices, Trump responded, “I don’t give a damn, I’m gonna say it: ‘We’re making a frickin’ fortune.’” So, stifle it, Americans. Big Oil is doing great.
Trump heartily endorsed a Ramaswamy Ohio gubernatorial ad using opponent physician Amy Acton’s well-known, documented childhood sexual abuse trauma, and her mother’s allegiance to the stepfather-rapist, that “Amy is a liar.” Trump called the mother’s accusation, “hitting pay dirt,” certain that the ad would motivate Republicans in Ohio. JDVance urged the Republican candidate to, “keep it up” and “just win the race.”
Perhaps strangest of all, are the Trump administration announcements of actions deferred “until after the midterms,” including: bombing Iran, aggressive student loan recovery by “private loan companies,” tariffs on Canadian prescriptions, as well as the landing of the Republican 2025 “big, beautiful bill,” reducing healthcare and food support availability, right after Christmas. An administration official acknowledged that, “it would be politically insane to do these things before the midterms.”
Trump has privately long-expressed surprise that MAGA thinks he has the slightest interest in ordinary Americans, that Christians think he is Christian, and that he respects the Constitution just because he says so, despite clear statements to the contrary: “I don’t care about you. I just want your vote.” August. 2024; “I am the government” various occasions; or, “I could say the stupidest thing and you’d clap” October 2026). We are beyond mere Republican v. Democrat, right v. left. We are in a fight for our Constitutional republic v. impending dictatorship, and upholding right over wrong.
