To the Editor:
I appreciate—and share—your concerns about Trump’s Ukraine policies. I would extend that concern to his aggressive attitude
toward all our allies. In this uncertain world, it’s good to have friends. Is it enough that Putin is his bestie? Kim Jung
Un? Nayib Bukele?
What I don’t understand is what it is about his domestic policies that you so adamantly support. I’m looking for clarity.
Is it his economic policies? The herky-jerky tariffs—here today, gone tomorrow? Is there something positive about unstable
markets that I’m just not getting?
Is it the willy-nilly layoffs of federal workers, with no analysis of the contributions they make? Then needing to find
their email addresses so they can be rehired?
Is it deportations without due process? The refusal to bring back someone the administration admits was deported in error?
Deported to notoriously brutal prisons that would be illegal here?
ICE agents in plain clothes with no badges or judicial warrants tearing citizen mother and daughters from their homes,
confiscating their property?
Trump’s lack of clarity about what’s in the constitution? That his desk is never where the buck stops? Do you admire the way
he’s personally profiting from the presidency? With bitcoins? His sons making deals with the Saudis?
Are you amused that he portrays himself as the Pope? Or as the bare-armed, muscle-man with the light saber? Or claims to be
“the ruler of the world?”
I ask again, what is it about any of this that you support?
