George A. Todd, Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 23, 2011.
George was born in Pasadena, California and moved to Ventura as a young man. He joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 16, later joining the US Navy in World War II.
Married Bernadine Todd in 1949. The Todds lived in Bardsdale for many years before moving to Lemon Wood Estates in Ventura.
He was a 55 year member of Operating Engineers Local 12. In 1979 he was at the controls of the first Caterpillar D10 Bulldozer that debuted in Southern California. In 1962 he set a record that stood for 20 years by winning the 100 mile McCulloch Marathon at Lake Havasu in his hydroplane boat.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bernadine. He is survived by his daughter, Londa; and sons, Phillip and George “Sanky”; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, May 14 at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura, California.
