On Tuesday, April 15th, at approximately 2:23 p.m., the Fillmore Police Department responded to a fight in progress at First Street and Mountain View Street. 911 callers reported that several male and female subjects were involved in a physical altercation, with at least two being stabbed. One victim was found on Mountain View Street with a stab wound, where Ventura County Fire treated the patient; a second victim arrived at the Fillmore Police Station, where the patient was treated by Fillmore City Fire and AMR Paramedics. Both stabbed patients were transported to a local hospital. According to the sheriff’s dispatch, four subjects fled in an older gray Nissan or Honda. It was last seen heading towards Highway 126. On 04/10/2025, a 67-year-old Ventura resident, (S) Robert Gibson, was arrested for a felonious violation of Penal Code §
459 – [Burglary].

At about 7:30 A.M., patrol deputies from the Sheriff’s Fillmore Station responded to a report of a burglary in the 400
block of Willard Road located in the unincorporated area of Santa Paula. Arriving deputies spoke with the reporting party
and determined a burglary had occurred.

The suspect, Gibson, had been detained by a diligent member of the community. A subsequent investigation took place and
additional evidence linking Gibson to the burglary was located by deputies on scene. As a result of the investigation,
stolen property was recovered and given back to the victim.

On 04/10/2025, Gibson was booked at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Pre-Trial Detention Facility for one count of Penal Code §
459 – [Burglary]. Gibson remains in custody pending court proceedings.

Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) maps, mandated by CAL FIRE and the Office of the State Fire Marshal, are now available for 
public review.

The new maps reflect updated data and scientific modeling to assess wildfire risks in both State Responsibility Areas (SRA) 
and Local Responsibility Areas (LRA). These updated maps will help better prepare our community and inform future 
development and emergency planning.

“These maps are an important tool in helping us understand the evolving risks we face from wildfires,” said Fire Chief 
Keith Gurrola. “We encourage residents to review the maps and attend our upcoming community meetings to ask questions and 
learn more about what these changes may mean for your property and our city.”

Public Hearings for Map Adoption:

April 22, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. – Introduction of ordinance

May 13, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. – Final adoption and public comment

(Both hearings will take place at Fillmore City Hall, Council Chambers)

In accordance with state law, the City of Fillmore is required to adopt the LRA maps within 120 days of their release. The 
City does not intend to propose any changes or increases to the hazard zones recommended by CAL FIRE.

On Friday and Saturday, March 28th and 29th a select group of track athletes traveled over the hill to compete in the Simi
Valley Invitational.

In the Rated high jump, Yaneli Landin claimed third place with a jump of 4’ 04”. In the Rated long jump Janessa Corona also
took third place with a leap of 15’ 2.75”. In the Seeded triple jump, Sarah Cedillos lept 30’ 8.00”. In the Rated boys long
jump Josiah Cruz finished 3rd with a jump of 19’ 00.50”. In the Rated boys triple jump, Jasiah Patterson was 8th reaching a
distance of 35’ 05,50”. In the Seeded boys triple jump, Mauricio Ocegueda was Fillmore’s top performer, leaping 36’ 7.25”.
Teammate Saul Fraga-Sandoval also jumped we’ll recording a leap of 36’ 2.75”.

In the Rated girls shot put, Adrianna Deleon was 2nd in 29’ 10”. Teammate Hermelinda Ocegueda was 4th in 28’ 00”, and Lucy
Murrillo was 7th in 26’ 06.50. In the Rated girls discus Hermelinda Ocegueda was 12th with a throw of 75’ 01”. Teammate
Andrea Ramirez was 24th with a toss of 59’ 09”. In the Seeded girls discus, Aerin Garcia tossed the implement 79’ 11”. In
the Rated boys discus Isaiah Meza was second with a personal best throw of 110’ 01”. Isaac Rivera threw the discus 112’ 05”
in the Seeded boys division.

In the Rated girls 100 meter hurdles, Emelie Magana ran a 19.41. Yaneli Landin ran a 52.27 in the Rated girls 300 meter
hurdles. In the Rated girls 100 meter race, Kimberly Magana led the Flashes with a mark of 12.55. Karinna Magana followed
in 13.15, Janessa Corona 13.18, and Mia Munoz in 13.55. In the Rated 400 meter run, Leah Barragan set a personal best time
of 63.06. Freshman Nathan Hernandez ran a personal best 400 meters in 53.52.

One of the most exciting results of this meet was the Fillmore Girls 4 X 100 meter relay team taking down the 30 year old
Fillmore High School record of 50.59, set in 1995 by the team of speedsters: Priscilla Villareal, Ericka Arana, Ana Baro,
and Melissa Arroyo. Fillmore current record setters, composed predominantly by underclassmen ran a 50.50 and captured 1st
place in the Rated 4 X 100 meter relay. Team members are Mia Munoz, Karinna Magana, Janessa Corona, and Kimberly Magana.

Chef Wigger uses a process known as Scratch Cooking. Scratch Cooking refers to preparing food from basic raw ingredients, rather than using prepackaged, processed, or semi-prepared items. It involves starting with fresh vegetables, meats, grains, and other whole foods to create meals, focusing on natural ingredients and traditional cooking methods. Chef Wigger came to FUSD from the Brigaid program. Brigaid has assembled a team of professional chefs who apply their culinary expertise to help school food service programs achieve their goals.
