At last week’s Fillmore Rotary Club meeting the Rotary speakers were Pastor Jim Duran the Executive Director of Tender Life Maternity Home and Cynthia Long, a past resident and now working there. The Ventura Tender Life began in 1985, and Jim was asked to be in charge in 2017. The Tender Life Maternity Home in Fillmore was given by Tim and Amy Gurrola. The pregnant women who come there are many times homeless and need to go there to have their babies. The homes have supportive services in an environment that instills dignity and promotes self-sufficiency. The women have chores each day as well as devotions. They have volunteers that train the women in childcare, prepare them for their future jobs and help them to earn their high school diploma. All of this is life changing for the women.
