Aries Vega Wins Lions Poster Contest
Aries Vega (holding poster), Fillmore Middle School student, has taken the first step to becoming a state wide recognized artist by winning the local competition sponsored by the Fillmore Lions Club. This year’s theme was “Imagine Peace”. Aries’ work was selected from the work of students in Doris Nichols’ (far left) art classes. Aries’ poster has been forwarded to the local Lions District for further competition in California. When Aries was asked how his poster represented the theme he responded, “Peace is what you do and see in the world and what to expect from it”. The runner-ups were Leonardo Rodriquez and Markayla Aguilar (holding certificate). Aries received $50 as the winner and Leonardo and Markayla $25. Judges Todd DeMheen and Ken Mittan (far right) were impressed by the many fine posters submitted. They also want to encourage all students to participate again next year. Also pictured Fillmore Middle School Principal Gary Mayeda.
