
On Saturday, December 13, will be the Annual Piru Christmas Parade and Festival this year’s Grand marshals are Salvador “Chava” & Rosie Hurtado picture above. Parade begins at 12pm, festival 1pm – 5pm on Center Street in Piru. Presented by Piru Neighborhood Council.
The Piru Neighborhood Council presents the Annual Piru Christmas Parade and Festival will be Saturday, December 13, at 12pm and the festival will be from 1pm -5pm.
Salvador “Chava” Hurtado made his way to Piru in 1960. Chava joined the United States Army from 1967-1969 and upon his return to Piru is when he met Roise Zavala a lifelong resident of Piru. Chava and Rosie married 1972 and have 5 boys: Salvador Jr., Phillip, Michael, Jamie and Jason. They are also blessed with 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Together Chava and Rosie have been serving our community for over 55 years and have contributed to some of the biggest events for our community, including re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross and the Jamaicas that went on for over 40 years. Other contributions and groups they were a part of are The Brownies, Cub Scouts, Disaster Assistance Response Team, Indian Guides, Piru Parks and Recreation Commission, Piru Jaycees, Piru School PTA, San Salvador Church Club, Sacred Heart Society, and Men’s Club at San Salvador Church. For over 17 years they served the Piru Little League as coaches, team mom or working the snack bar. Chava coached the only team to bring home a Little League Championship from the Montalvo Tournament. Chava was a member of the Piru Parks and Recreation Committee and helped run the Annual Men’s Softball Tournament at Warring Park.
Both Chava and Rosie are actively involved in our community Rosie runs Bingo games with the Piru Senior Group and helps with Piru School functions. Chava stays busy, for over 30 years he’s been maintaining the San Salvador Church, he is an active member of Los Vets Fillmore/Piru Group and joins VFW as a Flag Bearer.
