Weekend update

This is a mix and match weekend round up. On Saturday the JV Flashes Wrestlers competed in the Ventura 10 Way Tournament. Our JV Flashes finished 5th. We had a great showing of wreslters and the competition was good.

Our Sheriff Department had a family Christmas Party at the Towne Theater on Saturday night. It was a casual dress family event with dinner and a movie. Of course Santa was there for the kids. I've got to admit that I have not had the Christmas Spirit much this year, but the kids last night but a smile on my face.

Not to be out done the Fillmore Fire Department had their Christmas party also. Dinner was catered by our own Rigo and Laura Landeros. Helping in the kitchen was Joe R. and Rigo's sons. Our Fire Fighters leave the turn-outs in the truck and they scrub up for the event. All the Fire Fighters and their guests looked very nice. It's amazing to me to see how many of 70+ men and women live in outside of Fillmore but volunteer their time here. Our city is very proud of their service.

This afternoon is the Fire Department Toy Drive Chicken Dinner. Bring and unwrapped toy and get a BBQ Chicken dinner with all the fixings prepared and served by our very own Fire Fighters. You can drive through or do as our family has done for years "dine in". The toys collected stay local in Fillmore and provide a gift for those in need at this very special time of year. If you haven't done so pick up a toy (valued over $10) and bring it unwrapped to the Fire Station late this afternoon.

Friday night my wife and I watched the Flashes Boys Varsity Basketball game at the recently renovated gym. Fillmore out matched Carpenteria. Fillmore advanced to the Championship game against Oaks Christian on Saturday night. I don't know how that turned out but I'm sure it'll be in the paper. Fillmore was hosting 6 other schools in the 58th Fillmore Classic Basketball Tournament.

It's been a busy weekend.....
