Thanksgiving in Fillmore

Today is Thanksgiving. For many a time of reflection and expression of gratitude for the bounties of life, for others it's family, turkey, football and parades. For some it's a day of work.
Collectively in Fillmore we have several public items to be thankful for. I'll express some of my thoughts.
I'm thankful for Miliary Banner program. It reminds me daily of those individuals from our town who see the big picture and put liberty and freedom above personal gain.
I'm thankful for the recent FEMA stay which will save 1500 families a large amount of money for a few years.
I'm thankful that the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club who are committed to keeping the club doors open for the youth of Fillmore and have stepped in to do just that.
I'm thankful for the past vision of individuals who have helped shape our town and the amenities we now have.
This are some of the public items which I'm proud of as a Fillmore citizen.

I can personally appreciate your submission, Mr. Conaway, on the Thanksgiving piece you posted. I would say, definitely, that even without the turkey, football and parades, we can personally be thankful for what we have in friends, family, business associates, and all the rest.

However, as myself, being a non-traditionalist person (and family), we do not get into the Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, or other holiday events, even being overseas where only the international Christmas, New Year, Easter, etc are observed. We do not put up a tree. We share presents all year through...some extravagant but needful things, and we attend church every Sunday and are "thankful" every day we are here. The reminders of Christmas' past, Thanksgivings, and special holidays brings back warming memories to mind. We cannot go back, though. We are a busy family 365 days out of the year, and like you mentioned; some have to work. Not that we need the money, but we must continue our type of services to the communities here operating. I have not smelled a turkey cooking in over 20 years!
