In searching around the Internet newspapers this morning, I came across a post by a blogger in Maine (through the Bangor Daily News website). I never make postings to this site; just review it. Actually, the Fillmore Gazette is my only blog newspaper website! This post here, is not really for comment, more than it is informative to some, and I interjected it because it involved Los Angeles, CA, and some may actually see or hear this advertisement if you receive LA television and radio. The blogger mentioned in the thread that former (Independent) Governor of Maine, Angus King (absolutely NO relative of mine) has initiated a media advertisement campaign in Los Angeles for Californians to consider relocating to Maine for both employment and retirement or/and for recreational purposes, and to buy into land, businesses, and homes there. To me, this is a silly and unreasonable advertisement. Why? Maine has a very high tax rate both for businesses and for residents. The taxes don't adjust to income/property equations. It's young people, following high school or college education, are moving out of this state in droves. Maine is now relying on an influx of out-of-state gambling casinos and large real-estate developments to cut into the virgin woodlands and ponds of Maine for financial supports. See the "draw" now? The social, cultural, educational, and economical levels of Californians are way ahead of Maine in many, many ways and means. The cost of living in Maine does not really match-up with the per capita income or the spending on costs of goods, services and heating fuels in that state. Maine, primarily is a service and welfare state, and relies on tourism only 4 months out of the travel seasons. As an out-of-stater myself, and living in Maine on a few occasions, I found the acclamation to be impossible for all those reasons I mentioned plus the weather is depressing 6 months out of the year. I'm positive nothing will be assumed serious enough for Californians to relocate to Maine anytime soon, or in the future. It's nice for the former Governor, King, to make the attempt, however.
