City Fireworks show

The City of Fillmore will continue to host the annual 4th of July Fireworks show. The aerial show will be shot off from the Middle School. The number count of fireworks has increased from last year so the show should be really nice. The Car Show is being promoted by Fillmore and Western Railroad and will take place along the recently finished Central Ave. All in all it should be a fantastic day if Fillmore. Come on out and celebrate the birth of our Nation!

Anyone like to share their opinion of the city fireworks show?

Cre8PalmRoyal, Hi, this is 'Dave' here with some cooking tips for you.... Stir, Stir, Stir then sprinkle with insults and innuendos, pepper it with some snide comments, Bring to a full boil, then sit back and enjoy yourself with a big bowl of your famous Division Stew...your family must be proud of you.
Sincerely, Buster Brown

it was pretty good as usual.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know a rough statistic of how many people were busted for ill-legal fireworks?

I called the tip line, but it went to voicemail.

I don't have an exact number for violations and contacts. In your opinion was the pre-4th July quiter than previous year? Do you think you're seeing a decrease? What about on the 4th, same questions. Your responses might assist the City Council in better policy making for future years.

Thank you, "Buster". I got that recipe from Shorty Brooks.

Oh, Agent86, it's responses like yours that keep things lively and interesting around here.

Although I'm all for peace, harmony, and working together toward a common goal, it would get quite boring around these parts if it weren't for the relatively few bad apples that attempt to spoil the bunch.

Sitting inside the "guarded castle" of City Hall, it makes things interesting to watch how the politics work from the inside out. I certainly can't speak for anyone but myself, but I don't see a lot of the things happening that are being discussed on this site. Call it turning a blind eye or extreme naivety, but having my hands in many pots, I would like to think I could spot a Negative Nancy if one was in our midst.

it did seem a lot quiter pre 4th festivities, that is for sure. The night of seemed to have less airial type fireworks, but the exploding kinds were all over.

If I may drop 1 suggestion, more Police on foot, and maybe a couple DUI checkpoints within the city.

Good suggestions.

What were my suggestions rubbish?

"hector", I think, but not speaking for anyone, your best chance to obtain an answer would be to run over to City Hall per Steve's suggestion on another stream, and discuss the issue with someone there. The City Attorney is doing his best right now to eliminate any serious pool injuries or drownings. I doubt anyone are taking your comments non-seriously or negatively.

"The_Insider", thanks for the comment, too. I'm desperate to talk to someone. I was hoping that the comments would simply be those of the fireworks display - nothing more. But with the heat of the grill, the smoke from the spare ribs and BBQ sauce, and that barrel of ice and 4 cases of cold Corona's, I just could not help myself from giving my laptop a short workout with Agent86. The guys that were all here laughed at his comment and know what his allusion was. Or could I also say, "delusion"?

I hope for new news (if there is any) when the Gazette turns the web onto the public this week. But no...not time for the Council meeting yet, is it. Hope everyone had a great 4th this year; you too Mr. Roegner...er...sorry...Dave...or was that "Buster"... or... fraubro...er...Agent86...or..."Negative Nancy"; Dave...what name are you using this week?

Hector, wasn't aware that you provided an opinion on the fireworks show and illegal fireworks use. Did I miss your post on the topic? If so, sorry. Please let me know your opinion. Reference my post dated 7/6/09 at 11:01 AM.

Thanks,

Steve, "hector" was upset that the hold harmless agreement used by the City of Fillmore parroted the same contract used at the skate park site. He had his grandchildren with him ready to go swimming and he refused to sign the document. The kids were sort of distraught about not going to the new pool. I think the post from "hector" is in your new pool opening link someplace; I did not research it prior to making this comment.

I advised him to seek city interface, but apparently he took his grand-kids elsewhere. He is upset about the city not exposing itself to paying for pool injuries, etc.

The city does not require a release or wavier be signed for use of the skate park or any other park in the city for general use.
Upon advise of the City Attorney, the City should require releases at the pool. I believe, though haven't verified personally, that other cities in the county require releases. Like it or hate it, take it or leave it, that is what is required to help protect the city. This isn't a harsh or mean statement, and it doesn't belittle other opinions on the issue, it's just a straight forward response on the issue.

so there is a waiver to use the pool, but no waiver for the skate park?

Either way the City puts the responsibility on the people using the pool and/or the skatepark. What's the issue??? Nobody can take responsibility for their actions anymore?
"Don't run by the pool or dive in the shallow end"
"wear a helemt while skating"

Common sense I guess.

We noticed that the pre-4th of July activities were less than previous years.

As far as the actual show itself....we loved it. We have family from all over Southern California come to our house just for the fireworks (it helps that we can still buy some in the city to play with)

OU - I agree 100%...Common Sense People!!!!

Fireworks are dangerous and should not be allowed for sale, possession or discharge in Fillmore.

Posted by

Fireworks are not Dangerous, fireworks are cool.

Posted by

Fireworks are not dangerous... Drunk, Stoned and Stupid people playing with fireworks are dangerous.

86...we agree once again!!! And, yeah...fireworks ARE cool...but in the hands of sober adults with some semblance of common sense!!!

Fireworks in the Phils (yes...here we go again) happen maybe 6 times a year at the holidays here. But the majority and big-time fireworks displays, continual fireworks from everyplace in the city, happen at the Christian Christmas of 25 December and on New Years Eve - generally 10:00PM, 31 December through 3:00AM, 01 January next year.

Although mostly the children openly buy fireworks countrywide here, it are adults who usually purchase the big-blast fireworks (air and ground type) and the cities and townships purchase specially-sold fireworks that fly into the night sky 100 feet or more.

However, not everyone are "stupid", "drunk" or "stoned". Yes, there are some drinking merry-makers around (just like everyplace in the world) but even then, they are none of the three labels quoted...at least not here. They are careful, still. Happens that there are virtually no fireworks injuries, even to those children who are lighting them, or the adults who are firing off theirs. One type of popular fireworks here is not a fireworks at all, but a home-made large, round bamboo (there are three major types available) piece, maybe ten feet long and 5 or 6 inches in circumference, and it is filled with propane gas, then lit, making a tremendously loud 'boom'. The bamboo does not explode or crack. Nobody are injured still!

This is odd, but true enough. Yes, there are some injuries, but the reports are small percentages of the population and usually are from the young kids holding the firework when it explodes or going to near it when it explodes. These people here learn very early.

CPR. Stupid? Drunk? Or Stoned?

Indubitably

Just more bla bla bla bla bla from CPR, sure wouldn't want my kids to fill up a large bamboo rod with propane and light it off. I am glad they do that over there, I wont have to pay for their medical bills. Last years 4th of July was graet. Don't know stats on arrests and injurys but know it was very few. Every year we hear the other towns whine about Fillmore selling legal fireworks. Fillmore does not sell the illegal fireworks that seem to start the hills on fire, its usely the illegal ones. Kids and young adults get them from their parents who purchase them from out of state or from a friend that did. A person does not have to be impaired to hurt oneself while handling fireworks, last year a fireworks promoter was killed doing a show, I am sure he was sober while on the job. I personaly enjoy fireworks and the selling of them in Fillmore assists many youth and special services in town that otherwise could not operate at the quality that they do. I do believe all the firework booths have the wording safe and sane on them, along with flyers that state illeagal fireworks are not allowed in Fillmore, I also believe they hand them out to each buyer. They allso tell people who buy them that they are to be used inside city limits only and not to take them out of town.

I was drunk and stupid once while playing with Fireworks. It was dangerous, and I got hurt, but i had one helluva time!

sheiky...everyone has to be careful...even when filling your vehicle with gas at a gas station. No...really there are no reported injuries from the propane "guns" to men, women or children. At least none that I ever knew of. Kids generally are never allowed to go near propane tanks, but they are allowed to set off the large strings of Chinese firecrackers, and other smaller fireworks.

Unfortunately the place I reside in sells fireworks; while other cities around here disallow the sale and use of fireworks. But, as usual, people get them contraband if they have to or get them from out-of-town vendors anyway.

We had to laugh (with candor and disbelief) last year, though, when a truckload of barrio guys (fish farm caretakers, rice and corn farmers) came riding into town and purchased a considerable sum of fireworks. They were drunken and were raising hell. Before they left town, however, they stopped by at one of the local KTV places where "guest relation officers" (GRO's), actually girls who bilk money who work in these KTV's and sell whatever they can for profit of the establishment and self...got them even drunker. After finally loading them all back into the truck body...they started to go on their way, only for some of the guys lighting up cigarettes and some of the fireworks. Things got out of hand real fast as the entire load of fireworks went up...with three of the guys still intermingled with the fireworks. One died...one lost an arm and the other in the truck lost an eye - all suffered burns.
