STUDENT INFORMATION

1. YEARBOOK DISTRIBUTION takes place for 8th graders on Wednesday, 5/27 during 6th period and for 6th & 7th graders on Thursday, 5/28 during 6th period. Yearbooks will be on sale after school only to 8th graders on Wednesday, 5/27 and to all grades on Thursday, 5/28.
2. SCHOOL RULES – Harassing or threatening any student or adult will result in a 3-5 day suspension and possible expulsion.
3. WOW! Want to have a fun summer? Come sign up for R.M. Pyles Boys Camp. Established in 1949 in the Sequoia National Forest, it is a rugged, 2 week no-cost camp that seeks to instill confidence, pride, value of hard work and respect for self and others. Pyles Camp shows boys, ages 12-15 that they can succeed in life if they are willing to work hard. If interested, please stop by the mentor room to enroll with Norma Magana or call 524-6028 or contact Ramona Enriquez at 524-4999.

6. PRIDE IN AMERICA DAY is coming THIS FRIDAY, May 22nd
1. PEACE POETRY CONTEST - Veterans for Peace is sponsoring a Peace Poetry contest. Write a poem about Peace; any style is possible. One student from each grade level will win a $50 prize and will be recognized during the Pride in America Day assembly. Turn in your poems to your Language Arts teacher. The deadline is TODAY.
2. VETERANS and/or active duty soldiers are invited to attend our Pride in America assembly starting at 10:00 a.m. Turn in any veteran’s name to Mrs. Ecklund in the office or to your 1st period teacher. We want to honor our local veterans and soldiers.
3. JAMBA JUICE – Students and staff can support Pride In America Day by purchasing a $4 pre-sale ticket for a medium Jamba Juice that will be delivered on May 22. Purchase your tickets at the attendance office window during lunch.
4. OUR PARKING LOT will be closed on the morning of this event. Please plan accordingly. If your parents drop you off for school, have them drop you off at the corner of 1st and A Streets and walk into our campus.
7. PARTY GRANDE HAWAIIAN STYLE – Our last dance of the year takes place on Friday, 5/29 from 5:30-8:30. Tickets go on sale tomorrow during both lunches in the pavilion. The cost is $4.00 in advance and $5.00 at the door. We will have door prizes throughout the evening. Signed parent permission slip is required to attend.
8. ATTENTION 6th & 7th GRADERS – Now’s the time if you want to be in next year’s Yearbook class to come and get an application from Miss Beal in room K-3. We need hard-working students to be computer techs, photographers, sales leaders and treasurers. If you think this is you, see Miss Beal now. All applications are due to Miss Beal by Friday, 5/22.
9. ATHLETES/PEP SQUAD PHYSICALS – Attention 8th graders: Dr. Bautista will be offering FREE PHYSICALS for athletes and pep squad members that are in need to participate in summer practice. Physicals will be given TODAY beginning at 3:30 p.m. See Mrs. Brock in the office for a physical form.
10. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that the office has your current mailing address and phone number. We are preparing our summer packets to mail home regarding our next school year. If you have a change in address or phone number, please bring the correct information to the office. Thanks for your help!
11. 8th GRADERS – Promotion is coming upon us fast. In order to participate in the end-of-the year school activities you must pay your library and textbook fines. A list of 8th grader’s overdue fines is posted in the library. Come in and check the list and EVERYONE needs to finish up your AR reading. There are only 3 weeks left to read library books.
12. THE LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL is Monday, 6/1-Thursday, 6/4. We will NOT have a late start on Wednesday, 6/3. School will start at 7:55 a.m. each of these days. Monday, 6/1 is a full day. Tuesday-Thursday, 6/2-6/4/09 are minimum days and school will be dismissed at 12:07 p.m.
13. 8th GRADE PROMOTION takes place on Thursday, 6/4 at 11:00 a.m. Students should dress appropriately as our dress code WILL BE ENFORCED. If you need a copy of the dress code, every teacher has copies in their classroom.
14. SPECIAL ELECTIVE CLASS – The ASB/Leadership class has two 7th grade member-at-large positions open. Please pick up the application in room G-1. See Ms. Morielli in room G-1 if you need help with the application or have questions.
15. EARTH DAY IS EVERY DAY – For more Information about spaying and neutering cats and dogs, see Ruben Orozco and Cesar Vasquez.
16. TALENT SHOW – Students and staff who would like to participate in a fun event, please sign up for our 3rd annual talent show. The show is scheduled to take place June 3. If you have any questions, need more information, or a room to practice, please see Ms. Morielli in room G-1.
PARENT INFORMATION

1. PRIDE IN AMERICA DAY – Please plan ahead. The FMS parking lot will be closed in the morning of Friday, 5/22 for Pride in America Day activities. There will be no cars allowed to park in the parking lot that morning. There will be one loop in and out of the gate to drop off students. If you can drop your son/daughter off before the stop sign at 1st and A streets and have them walk in to school, this will ease congestion into the school. Thank you for your support.
2. 8th GRADE PROMOTION – Promotion takes place on Thursday, 6/4/09 starting at 11:00 a.m. Please keep in mind that this event is very well attended. Plan ahead. Parking is limited. Once our parking lot is full, you will need to park in the surrounding neighborhoods and walk into the school. Our ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. so please plan accordingly.
