Well, once again, I’ve been bullied into a 180-word space on page 2.
The only Fillmore City Council candidate I can wholeheartedly endorse is our Mayor, Steve Conaway. Although I have strongly disagreed with several of his decisions, in my opinion his presence on the Council is necessary to preserve a common sense approach to city government.
Steve has a good business head, a solid understanding of the issues, and has proven to be fair, open-minded, honest, and decisive. He is also a great communicator. You may disagree with some of his votes, but no one has trouble understanding his reasons. Steve is the glue holding the Council together during fractious times.
On the other hand, his vocal opposition is often outrageously disrespectful and grossly misleading in its criticism – as it often is towards our former City Manager, Roy Payne.
Though I supported Measure H and I in the beginning, I now see they were (as previous Measures) carelessly drafted and, if passed, will cost Fillmore many millions of dollars in lawsuit damages. Vote NO on Measures H and I.
Amen.
Amen.
I'll second that amen...it's
I'll second that amen...it's probably the most unqualified, divisive field of candidates I've ever seen for council...I'd like to support Cuevas, as her voting record is pretty good...unfortunately, there's the way she approaches the job and apparently, life in general, that I simply can't support. We've already had one candidate come out and admit in open session that he intends to divide, and we simply can't have that, especially now when being a team player is very important, and that's absolutely NOT to say that he can't have his own opinions and point of view...but there are five players on that team, and I'll tell ya from personal experience, you're gonna have to get along in order to legitamize and succeed in getting your point across! The other candidates come completely from left field, and two of them are single issue, "ax to grind" sorts, so it seems.
The propositions are simply foolish. No other words to say about that. Planning thru the ballot box is an incredibly slippery slope, and if these propositions succeed, our city government is going to be very busy in the next few years trying to keep that slope from becoming a slide...poo poo this if you want, but in two years time, think back on what I'm saying and then evaluate it...not a scare tactic...but it's my best guess scenario!
Good call, Martin...
Martin, you did not need 180
Martin, you did not need 180 words...you were clear and concise in just 40 words when you stated: "Though I supported Measure H and I in the beginning, I now see they were (as previous Measures) carelessly drafted and, if passed, will cost Fillmore many millions of dollars in lawsuit damages. Vote NO on Measure H and I."
Thank you.
I'll "THIRD THAT"
I'll "THIRD THAT" Amen...Amen...Amen! But no "Awoman!" Lets go to Outback! Plan on an 8-hour get-together. (Don't worry much, Chuy...we get over to your place, too). Really...seems Mr. Conaway has got his "stuff" together.
Yes!!! ON "H" & "I" They are
Yes!!! ON "H" & "I"
They are on the Ballot so it was drafted carefully and courageously.
It is obvious the Management at City Hall is paying you Payne to campaign against H & I.
WE don't like carpet baggers.
When these Props pass, WE the Citizens of Fillmore voices will be heard.
You are not an Attorney neither are any of these cornies down casting these props.
The Props are on the Ballot and only us Citizens of Fillmore can vote for it.
Yes!!!!!!!!
ON "H" & "I"
The statement that "they (H
The statement that "they (H & I) are on the ballot so it was drafted carefully and courageously" does not mean the measures are legal or will stand up to litigation. Yes, the voters will have their say on these two measures. Your city council members will be required to deal with the consequences, perhaps in court time and with your tax dollars.
Roy Payne is not being compensated to campaign against H & I. Roy has said voters should educate themselves on the important issues. Some would rather attack him rather than debate the merits of the measures. Sad, but true.
Steve Conaway
WHAT????? "drafted carefully
WHAT????? "drafted carefully and courageously"? In what? A week? Two? To undo AT LEAST six long years of work by staff, PC, and CC? That's silly on the face of it! Did an attorney even eyeball those two measures before they went to City Hall?
I will agree with you on this, LOL...'WE' will vote...might not go your way...ya ever think about that? Don't be too confident yet...I think that maybe Fillmore voters might be smarter than you think...
So the managing duo of Roy
So the managing duo of Roy and Tom hire a company for $10,000 to concur with their position.Don't you think for $10,000 you can get a company to argue against it?
It took years of hard work
It took years of hard work and we got it right.
Steve Conaway, this is one reason you will be voted out of office. Your out of touch with your Constiuents and reality. 2 years you and your cronies ignored the Citizens of Fillmore. Over 1600 singatures were collectd over and over more joined the cause. You, Cuevas, Smedley, Dressler and Villagas all ignored your constiuents. You and Cuevas are the last of the five. stike your out!
Fillmore needs to down size, and restructure the Council for the People.
Vote for Washburn, Brooks
"H" & "I"
"It took years of hard
"It took years of hard work.." only because of errors and blunders. Yes it took multiple attempts to get the process right. The group stood in front of Vons collecting signatures and let everyone who signed the petition down because they failed to publish the petition. Next the same group collected signatures again to limit growth in North Fillmore only to target the wrong ordinance. That was when an Attorney stood before City Council and said "the intent of what we wanted was...." which in my views means they missed the mark. Now on the groups third attempt they managed to follow the process correctly and have brought the issue before the voters. No creditable legal review was performed by the drafters that I'm aware of. The issue will be decided by the voters. I just hope that all the supporters of Measure H & I will continue to stand behind the legal challenges which I believe the city and your tax dollars will be forced to deal with. If the voters are committed to the measures from beginning to end and are willing to pay the price then so be it.
I would encourage voters to get informed and make their own mind up on the issue.
Personally I believe property rights matter. The statement of "We don't want North Fillmore to change" is so short sighted that a guide dog is needed.
For those that seem to think my life centers around being on the council let me assure you that being a council member is something I do, it's not who I am. I serve at the will of the people.
Steve Conaway
No! Steve McClary Deputy
No! Steve McClary Deputy Clerk Failed to direct the proper procedure and you know that. Because he is not the Elected Clerk, he has no consequences for error. No, City Council members who refuse to act in behalf of their constituents will pay the price. I didn't know you had legal background, being a SCE employee and only 4 years representing the Developers. The group of people at Vons, were the ones that put you in office. They will be the votes to remove you. Strike your OUT!
It's always somebody else'
It's always somebody else' fault, huh? Man, I've heard that one so often from that crowd that I'm thinkin' about gettin' a tattoo of it on...how 'bout them Dodgers, eh?
Pancone, yes the City
Pancone, yes the City Clerk's Deputies do not know nothing. Yet they are obligated by State ordinance to act in behalf of the City Clerk who does not do her job. Before you cast your negative attitude, check the facts. You will find, there are those at City Hall that do not do their jobs by state ordinances. eig: the Tax Claim against the City of Fillmore by the City of Industry and Livermore. Steve McClary is in that suit. Why? he did not act in accordance to State Ordinances. Watch he will be a part of the up coming law suit as well as Payne, Ristau, Smith and all the City Council from 2003 to present.
Negative attitude? I'm not
Negative attitude? I'm not sueing anybody. I'm not tossin' mud around. I'm not criticizing staff or Council. What negative attitude are you referring to? I'm tired of the negative attitude I see here and on other blogs. My attitude is positive...always has been.
