
Donal Wade Downey, aged 87, passed away on May 29, 2025, in Fillmore, California. Born on September 7, 1937, Donal, affectionately known as Don, spent over four decades in the banking industry, culminating his career at the Bank of the Sierras in Fillmore.
Don was known for his unwavering kindness and was often referred to as the friendliest man in Fillmore. His warm personality and loving nature left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He was a committed member of Faith Community Church in Fillmore. Don shared his musical talents widely, playing the guitar and leading songs, which were integral parts of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Deana; daughters Janet Rutland and husband Mickey, Laurie Downey, and Julie Stallings and husband Gary; grandchildren, Whitney and Zachary Rutland; and his sister, Peggy Riggins. He was preceded in death by Ralph and Celestine Downey, sister Pattsy Horn, and brothers-in-law, Bob Horn and Jack Riggins.
A memorial celebration will be held at his family home at 1123 King St, Fillmore, on July 12, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m., where family and friends can gather to share food and memories. A special tribute to Don will be at 1:30 p.m.
Don Downey’s life was marked by his devotion to community, his church, and most importantly, his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
