Oxnard, CA – The 3rd annual National Day of Remembrance for Murdered Victims in Ventura County will be on September 25, 2009, at Plaza Park - Oxnard. On this day we as a community will join together to honor the memories of murdered victims and recognize the impact of homicide on surviving family members and friends.

To address our guests and bring awareness and prevention against violence POMC is honored with our guest speaker Denise Brown sister of, Nicole Brown Simpson who was murdered on June 12, 1994. Since early 1995 Denise Brown has traveled to various states speaking on the epidemic of domestic violence. She has addressed university student bodies, men in prison and in batterers' treatment programs, women at risk, church groups and various educational and legislative forums. Ms. Brown has helped raise funds for local shelters all across the country with her appearances, and has assisted in the success of a major project called the Vine System. This Program is an automated victim notification service of the release of batterers from jail or prison.

If your loved one was killed in an act of violence, because of a drunk driver or killed while serving in the military, please join us on eventful and heartwarming day. Ms. Brown will be available for a meet and greet between 4:00 – 5:00PM and will be participating in the Ceremony not only as a guest speaker but as a survivor of a homicide victim.

An authorization form must be turned in with a 5x7 picture of your loved one no later than September 21st. Sponsored by the Ventura County Chapter Parents Of Murdered Children (POMC), a National Non-Profit Organization, this special observance seeks to pay tribute to the hundreds of people who have been murdered in Ventura County and all around our Nation and beyond, to publicly recognize the tremendous losses endured by their families and friends; and to educate our community about the rights and services available to surviving family members of homicide victims. We invite you to join us survivors of homicide victims, family and friends for what promises to be a moving and inspirational event.

The ceremony will consist of a Dove Release, A Murder Wall with the picture of your loved one, Slide Show, “Silent March” - this will be a symbolic march where your loved ones decorated foam board will be placed on the ground In the entry way to the event. A Candle light Vigil will follow.

Ceremony will be held on Friday, September 25th, 2009 at 5:00 PM at Plaza Park in Oxnard (Plaza Park in downtown Oxnard is located at the intersection of Fifth Street and "B" Street (just off Highway 101 and the Pacific Coast Highway).
