Fillmore Rotarian Scott Beylik presented the Rotary program about the Junior Fair Board. Scott is the advisor for the board and stated that he had been the first student from Fillmore to participate. The organization is made up of young adults, high school age throughout Ventura County. This year there are eight members from Fillmore, out of 20, currently serving on the junior Fair Board. The students put on contests throughout the Ventura County Fair like pie contests, lemon bobbing, watermelon eating and adult showmanship. They also assist the fair in volunteering during special events like Fair Entry Weekend and helping at the Strawberry Festival. The girls also added they learn to speak in public, shake hands and be able to get out of their comfort zone. The program’s goal is to develop leadership skills and learn more about the workings of the Ventura County Fair. The members who attended Fillmore Rotary were Mia Urbano, Myla Puebla and Marissa Calderon, pictured above.
