At last week’s Fillmore Rotary Club meeting, Kim Tafoya, Athletic Director and Cross-Country and Track Coach, joined two of her student-athletes, senior Andrea Gamez and sophomore Damian Santa Rosa, as guest speakers.
The speakers shared their experiences and discussed the success of the school’s running teams this year. Damian began running at age 11, while Andrea started in eighth grade. Tafoya explained the team’s training routine, which includes running three miles along various routes to build endurance and prepare for upcoming meets.
Rotary Club members also took the opportunity to thank Tafoya and her teams for their hard work and support of the club’s 5K and 10K runs.
As a way of sharing the proceeds from the events, the Rotary Club presented the team with a check for $6,271.72 in appreciation of their efforts and contributions to the community.
