Our beloved mama and grandma, Catherine O. “Wera” Cervantez, 91, of Piru, Ca, peacefully passed away on July 4th, 2025, to be with our Lord and to join her loving husband and her family who’ve gone before her. Mama was born to Ignacio and Amanda Abalos Ortega on February 13, 1934, in Piru Ca. Mama attended Piru and Fillmore schools up until the 8th grade as she traveled back and forth from Piru, Ca to El Paso, Tx with her parents. In 1951, at the age of 17, she met her loving husband, Manual Cervantez of Piru, Ca. Together they built their beautiful family in their “little castle”, as she would call it, in Piru and were blessed with 5 children. They were married for 47 years until his passing in 1998. Mama worked for Fillmore-Piru Citrus Association as a lead grader for 29 yrs. Mama was a devoted Catholic and was a Parishioner of San Salvador Mission church. Mama loved the fact that she lived across the street from the church and enjoyed listening to the church bells that rang throughout the day. Mama was a member of the Sacred Heart Society at which one time she served as President. Mama enjoyed gardening in her garden, shopping with her daughters, spending time with her siblings, taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching Dodger games or the animal planet channel and most of all drinking her extra hot coffee all day long. One thing about Mama was she loved her siblings very much and would do anything for them. She also welcomed anyone who came to visit her and always made sure to offer them coffee as she would tell us “dales café”.
She is survived by her children, Pauline (husband, Gilbert), Phyllis, Phillip (wife, Doreen), Greg (wife, Sharyn), and Angela (husband, Manuel); 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her sister and best-friend Delfina Ortega; numerous nephews and nieces and her honorary family friend, Sandi Graham.
Mama was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Manual Cervantez, her loving parents and siblings.
We would like to give a special thanks to Dr.Deutch and his staff for the many years as her Doctor, to her nurses Christine Holliday and Kathrine Montes of Los Robles Home Health/Hospice for taking such good care of her with compassion and dignity towards the end of her life, to Irma Torres for being a phone call away to support us with caregiving and nursing needs and to her niece, our cousin Denise Ruiz for devoting her time to stay with Mama in times of keeping her company and to help care for her when needed.
We will miss you deeply, Mama. You were our strength and our home. May you rest in peace with Daddy and please watch over and pray for us. Your love lives on in all of us. We love and thank you for everything. Until we meet again.
