Benjamin “Ben” Joe Meraz died in his home on October 15th, 2016. He was 65 years old.
Ben was born on March 31, 1951, in Chula Vista, CA to Henrietta Zamaripa and Jose Luis Meraz.
He graduated from Ventura College with an associate degree in 1979. He then went on to serve 6 years in the Army participating in the 82nd Airborne.
Ben is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Vince and Christie Roman; son & daughter-in-law, Ben and Judy Meraz; daughter, Veronica Meraz; grandchildren Alexandra (Joel) Ericson, Victoria and Dustin Roman, Aleena Waldron, Lilyanna, Olivia, and Isaac Meraz, Travis Gonzalez and great grandson, Mason Ericson. Brothers Dan and Dave (Trisha) Meraz; Fred Segura and his mom, Henrietta Zamaripa.
He is preceded in death by his dad, Joe Meraz, and nephew, Dustin Meraz.
Ben was a Moose Lodge member.
Ben will be a remembered for his love of the Los Angeles Dodgers, hot dogs, camping with friends, fishing, John Wayne movies, backpacking up Sespe River with his brothers and friends and the chance to make someone laugh.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, October 21st, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary in Santa Paula, 738 East Santa Paula Street, Santa Paula, California 93060. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ben Meraz’s life with a potluck at the Moose Lodge after the service.
