Camarillo Hospice presents its Fifth Annual Chili Cook-off and Music Festival Sunday, September 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Camarillo Ranch.

With an ICS-sanctioned chili competition, live music by Caught Red Handed and Fantastic Diamond, Classic Car Display, Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament and Kids’ Zone, this event offers something for everyone.

In addition to prizes and trophies for the best red chili, chili verde and salsa, the crowd favorite will be honored as the People’s Choice chili. The competition is not limited to those with prior experience. Rules and Regulations and an entry form are available at www.camarillochilicook-off.com, www.camarillohospice.org or www.ics.org.

Buy-in for the Texas Hold’Em Poker, held in the Red Barn, is $100. There will be several non-cash prizes awarded during the course of the tournament, and the grand prize is a seat at a $500,000 tournament.

The Chili Cook-off and Music Festival is a family- and fun-oriented Labor Day week-end event. In addition to chili, music and poker, there will be a Classic Car

Display and Kids’ Zone throughout the afternoon. Admission is $10 for adults, with active military and children under 10 free.

The Pleasant Valley Lions Club will be cooking their famous hamburgers and hot dogs, and various other vendors will be on site. Beer and wine also will be available. The Chili Cook-off and Music Festival is one of the major fundraisers for Camarillo Hospice, a volunteer hospice and grief counseling center. Various levels of sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Camarillo Hospice office, at the Camarillo Farmers Market starting August 10, and at the Ranch on the day of the event.

Camarillo Hospice is a volunteer hospice and grief support center in Camarillo dedicated to the dignity of life by providing care, comfort, support, and counseling to individuals and families facing a life-limiting illness and/or grieving the loss of a loved one, as well as education on end-of-life issues to all. Founded in 1978, it serves people throughout Ventura County free of charge.
