CLU presents Founders Day Concert
University Symphony to perform Haydn, Puccini

THOUSAND OAKS, CA - California Lutheran University’s Founders Day Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in Samuelson Chapel.

The University Symphony will present “Symphonies and Chrysanthemums” under the direction of veteran faculty member Daniel Geeting.

The program will include Haydn’s last symphonic piece, Symphony No. 104, which was dedicated to the place where it was composed, London. The 50-piece orchestra will also perform Czech-American composer Vaclav Nelhybel’s Movement for Orchestra, a virtual compendium of 20th-century tonal composition techniques, and Puccini’s endearing “Crisantemi” (Chrysanthemums), a little-known piece originally written for string quartet but expanded to orchestral string section.

The chapel is located south of Olsen Road near Campus Drive on the Thousand Oaks campus. Additional parking is available at the corner of Olsen and Mountclef Boulevard.

Former CLU President Jerry Miller and his wife, Margaret, are sponsoring the free concert. Donations will be accepted. For information, call the Music Department at 805-493-3306 or visit http://www.callutheran.edu.
