Call For Entries: Photography Competition In Conjunction With Photoventura ‘09

Buenaventura Art Association announces a “Call for Entries” for a photography competition in conjunction with PhotoVentura ’09. The theme is “Inspiration is YOU!” The juror is Scott Miles, Professional Photography Program Director for Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara.

Entry fee for non Buenaventura Art Association members is $20 each or 3 entries for $45.00. Member entry fees are $15.00 each or 3 entries for $35.00. First Place prize is $200, Second Place $150, Third Place $100. Two Honorable Mentions non-cash prizes of a year membership to Buenaventura Art Association. In addition, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners will also receive a year membership to Buenaventura Art Association.

Entries need to be brought into the gallery on Sunday, October 4 and Monday, October 5 between 11 – 2 pm.
The awards reception will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10 during PhotoVentura ’09 Gallery Crawl from 5 – 8 pm. The exhibit runs from Oct. 6 – Nov. 7, 2009.

Scott Miles earned his Bachelor of Arts in Professional Photography at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA in 1982. After working as an agricultural photographer providing research support for Cornell University, he began his own business in Connecticut specializing in architectural photography. In 1992, Scott purchased a commercial photography studio in Stamford, CT and broadened his services to include product / advertising photography. In 1996 he partnered with a graphic designer and transitioned to digital capture in the studio. The studio offered a full range of services for the production of marketing projects. Over the past years, his photography has consisted primarily of illustrative photography, with a more recent emphasis on landscape photography and historical architectural photography. In the fall of 2002, Scott returned to his alma mater to become a full time faculty member at Brooks Institute. In December 2005, Scott graduated from Boise State University with a Master of Science in Educational Technology. This field concerns the use of technology to enhance learning. In 2007, Scott became the Professional Photography Program Director at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. Miles has increasingly focused his attention on the history of photography as well as evaluating photography for educational and collection purposes.
