It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, son, brother, father, tio, grandfather and friend Alfonso “Poncho” Barragan. He passed in the early morning of March 4, 2023 in Panorama City. Poncho was born on May 9, 1968 in Ayumba, Michoacan to Alfonso and Josefina Barragan. He was the eldest of four children. He came to the United States when he was 11 years old. He was raised in Piru, California and attended Piru Elementary School and graduated from Fillmore High School in 1987. After high school he attended ITT Technical Institute where he studied and graduated with a bachelor degree in telecommunications.
He had a great work ethic that began when working with his parents in the fields during summer breaks. He also worked at the family restaurant “Poncho’s Place” with his parents. He last worked for Cal OES for 16 ½ years.
In February of 2002 he was blessed with his one and only daughter Ariana. And just recently in November of 2022 he became a grandfather to his one and only granddaughter, Aurora, who is 3 months old.
Some of his passions included fishing and CB radios (his CB handle “KG6LYN”)
Poncho is survived by his only daughter Ariana, her partner Isaac, his 3 month old granddaughter Aurora, his girlfriend Patricia, his parents Alfonso and Josefina, his brothers Sal (Aude), Jose and sister Sandra. His nieces Bryanna and Caitlyn and nephews Robert, Joe, Alex, Ricky, David and Patrick.
We will all miss his beautiful soul and love him forever.
