Gloria Elena Ponce (1952-2021) & Jose Luis Ponce (1949-2021)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved parents, sister and brother, aunt and uncle, grandparents, great grandparents Gloria Elena Ponce & Jose Luis Ponce. Gloria Elena Ponce, 69, born January 15th, 1952 in Mexicali B.C, Mexico to Francisca Barajas & BuenaVentura Lopez, went to be with the lord on Wednesday, July 28th,2021. Jose Luis Ponce, 72, born April 26th, 1949 in Tijuana B.C, Mexico to Ramon Ponce & Sara Ponce, passed away 19 days after his wife on August 16th, 2021. Gloria & Jose were married in the year of 1975, they would have celebrated 46 years of marriage this coming August 23rd. Both Gloria & Jose were long time residents of Fillmore. They were known fondly by their family as Nana and Tata.
Gloria will be remembered for her unconditional love and loving care for others. She always welcomed everyone with open arms and always put her family before herself. Her passion was caring for all her grandchildren. Gloria loves music and dancing. She spent weekends shopping with her daughter and grandkids.
Jose will be remembered for the times he loved to spend with his family, where he loved laughing and telling stories. He always cared for animals and loved his 5 pets. Jose would always be seen riding his bike around Fillmore and walking his dogs. Jose had a love for classic cars and he shared that love for cars with his sons.
Gloria & Jose enjoyed spending time with their family and adored their grandchildren. Gloria & Jose were the heart and soul of our family, and will forever be in our hearts.
Gloria & Jose survive by their sons- Gerardo (Erika), Esteban (Veronica), Jose, daughter- Monica (Raul), grandchildren- Jose Arturo, Serena (Arthur), Adam, Syenna, Mia, Anabel, Nayeli, great grandchildren- Aubhree, Ila, Olivia, Gloria’s 7 siblings & Jose’s 9 siblings, as well as their many nieces & nephews. Gloria & Jose will be missed everyday of our lives.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 27th, 2021, a rosary will be recited at 9:30 am, mass at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1048 Ventura Street in Fillmore, CA. Interment to follow at Bardsdale Cemetery, Fillmore, CA. Our family thanks those who visited and prayed for Gloria, Jose and the family during this difficult time.

Pedro Carrillo Munoz (1926-2021)

On Tuesday, July 27, 2021, Pedro Carrillo Munoz, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at age 94 in Fillmore, California.
Pedro was born on November 13, 1926, in Chalchisco de Arriba, Zacatecas to Jose and Ma. Encarnación Carrillo Munoz. On December 1, 1965, he married the love of his life, Petra Munoz in Jalpa, Zacatecas, and celebrated 55 years of marriage.
They were blessed with three children, Jose Pedro Munoz, Olga Herrera Munoz, and Alma Angelica Rodriguez.
Pedro first came to the United States in 1947, where he worked in Texas, where he worked in agriculture. He lived and worked in Texas, Illinois, and throughout California, before settling in Fillmore in 1963. He and his family lived in Rancho La Campana until 1990. Pedro was also involved in the Migrant Education Program; his involvement led him to advocate at the county, state, and federal level, where he represented the migrant parents and children of California. He attended morning mass six days a week, followed by a coffee club at McDonald’s with his friends for numerous years, where they talked about every subject under the sun and received table service from the employees who knew and loved them.
Pedro’s greatest passion was his family. He loved unconditionally and was always there to help his children and grandchildren in any way he could. He helped with countless drop-offs and pick-ups, would go to the grocery store multiple times a day to buy any and everything his wife needed, and attended every sporting and school event he could.
He will be remembered by his detailed stories, driving around town on his red scooter, and his love for coffee and sweets. He was blessed to pass surrounded by his family in his favorite place in the world, his home.
He is survived by his wife, Petra Munoz, his children- Jose Pedro Munoz (m. Diane Munoz), Olga Herrera Munoz, and Alma Rodriguez (m. Tomas Rodriguez), grandchildren- Martin Herrera, Marco Herrera, Brianna Rodriguez, Valery Rodriguez, Venisa Rodriguez, Isaac Rodriguez, and Roman Munoz, and great-grandchildren- Rayleen Herrera, Aubrey Herrera, Nevaeh Herrera, Roman Herrera, Gianna Herrera, Cartel Herrera, and Gemma Herrera.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 9:00pm on Monday, August 9th, 2021 at Faith Community Church, 355 D Street in Fillmore, California. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30am on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 with a Funeral Mass to begin at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1048 Ventura Street in Fillmore, California. Interment to follow at Bardsdale Cemetery, 1698 South Sespe Street in Fillmore, California.

Dale Palmer (1947-2021)

In Loving Memory, Dale Palmer Passed away peacefully in Sallisaw, Oklahoma on July, 7th 2021 after battling cancer since 2016.
He was born November 5th 1947 in Bell Garden, Ca to the parents of Joyce Muriel (Paulsen) Palmer and Frank Dale Palmer of Ventura County who are also laid to rest.
Dale attended school in Fillmore, Calif. then later in years he went into oil field work as a driller. Then moved onto work for Hansen’s Pest Control. Later in life, Dale finally resided in Mooreland, OK. Then moved on to Sallisaw, OK to retire, to where he could do some good fishing along the Arkansas River with his fishing partner Jerrel Mc Glothlin of Sallisaw, OK. Oh how he loved to ocean fish with his brother Bobby with every opportunity that came along for to go.
Dale is Survived by his 2 brothers Bobby Palmer of Fillmore and Gary Palmer of Fillmore., Daughter Da Lena Palmer of San Francisco, Son Kenny Palmer of Missouri, and Gary Dale of Woodward, OK. Along with Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts from all around.
Cremation will take place at Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK. Followed by the spreading of the ashes as he desired in life.

Evelynn Ybarra Grosfield (1950-2021)

Evelynn Joyce Ybarra was born November 13, 1950 in Santa Paula, California to Marcelino “Woody”, and Minnie Ybarra. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Fillmore, CA where they welcomed another daughter, Barbara Ybarra, and then a son, Robert Ybarra.
Evie was raised in Fillmore, attending elementary school all the way through high school where she graduated in 1968. Her senior year of high school she competed and won Miss Fillmore Princess, then went on to compete for Ventura County in October 1968.
Evie then attended Ventura Community College with goals of attending USCB and becoming a teacher. It was at Ventura College, in English class where Evie met her future husband, Robert Grosfield. After graduating from Ventura College, she completed her education at UCSB with a major in English. Evie then began her teaching career at San Cayetano elementary school in Fillmore as a 2nd grade teacher. This was the beginning of a long, and dedicated career as a bilingual teacher for children from elementary school, junior high school, and high school.
A few years later, on August 24th 1974, Evelynn and Robert Grosfield married in Fillmore, CA. They moved to Ventura, and bought their house on Linda Vista Ave, which would be their home until it was lost in the Thomas Fire in December of 2017. Despite this tragedy, Evie managed to maintain a positive outlook and was just grateful they survived the fire together.
In 1979 Robert and Evie welcomed their daughter, Elizabeth Grosfield and 3 years later, their son Robert Grosfield Jr. Evie was a doting mother over her 2 children, always the cheerleader saying, “You can do anything!” She was constantly praising and building up her kids, and they had no doubt that she loved them. There are many fond memories of staying up late to watch movies, cooking together, and enjoying each other’s company. In 2002 Evie became a grandma for the first time, welcoming 4 grandchildren in total over the years. Michael, Christopher, Conner and Claire have many memories of warmth and love shown to them by their Grandma Evie.
Evie had a strong connection to family, and loved to be with her mom, Minnie, her sister, Barbara, and brother Robert who also lived in Ventura. Evie loved going to the pool with family. They had many BBQ’s and dinners together. There were many evenings spent at her mom’s house with the whole family together. She loved her 3 nephews, and their 4 children. It brought her so much joy to be able to give gifts and see the children grow.
As a loving mother and busy teacher, she always found time for other projects, especially for her students and their education. She hosted a radio show on Ventura’s local radio station which focused on bringing awareness to issues that children faced in education, as well as interviewing authors, and a variety of different guests. After retiring as a teacher, she became an author of local history books; she authored 5 books and co-authored another one. She spent many hours researching, interviewing and traveling around the area with her husband, Robert or son Robert Jr., and her cousin, Laura to take pictures of local sights for her books.
In February of 2019, Evie was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, but despite cancer being tough to battle, Evie’s smile was tougher. She never let the diagnosis dim the bright light that she showed the world. Her final years were spent with Robert, her faithful husband and caretaker, at her side. She even managed to publish 2 more books while undergoing treatments, and was working on another. Evelynn was joyful, cute, funny and beautiful. She loved her family, and she loved living life in her own style. She was brave, and talented and always had a good time. She will be missed by many who truly loved her.

Gregorio “Gollo” Alday (1929-2021)

Our Dad, Gregorio Alday was born May 25, 1929 in Aurora Coahuila Mexico and went home with the Lord July 1, 2021. Our Dad came to the U.S. in the 1950’s and lived in Fillmore for over 60 years. Our Dad loved music; he played the saxophone since his early teenage years. He enjoyed the outdoors, biking, hiking and having a few drinks. He loved to spend time with family and enjoying good times. Dad is survived by Mom, Paula Alday and his children, Lupe Alday-Acero, Rafael Alday and Fidel Alday and grand children ( Vanessa, Jake and Josh Acero; Gerardo and Alex Alday and Giovanni Alday). He is also survived by two beautiful great-grandchildren whom he adored with all his heart Nate and Sophie Alday. Dad will be missed every day of our lives; our hearts are filled with many wonderful memories. Dad will like to be remembered with happiness and joy! Services will be held at Perez Family Funeral Home Sunday, July 25, 2021 (4:00 – 8:00); mass on Monday, July 26th at 10:00 a.m. We are holding a celebration of life at 1:30 p.m. July 26th (824 Wileman St.).

Epimenia S. (“Penny”) Cardona (1926-2021)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister and aunt, Penny Cardona, who passed away earlier this year on January 19, 2021. Penny was born in Fillmore on March 24, 1926 to Marcos & Gregoria Cardona. Penny worked in various different packing houses in Fillmore throughout her earlier years. Penny also spent many years successfully selling Studio Girl Cosmetics in the 1960s and 70s.In her spare time, Penny loved to bake and this eventually became one of her passions. She loved baking for her family members and sometimeswould have cupcake parties for her nieces and nephews and some of the neighborhood kids. She often times would create her own baking recipes. Christmas was Penny’s favorite time of year and she made sure to bake plenty of cookies and holiday treats for every member of her family. Everyone always looked forward to her delicious treats. In addition to her love for baking, especially around the holidays, she always made sure that she had a big Christmas tree, which she beautifullyand meticulously decorated every year. She put so much timeand effort into carefully placing each ornament on her tree and it meant so much to her to make sure that her tree, along with all the other Christmas decorations throughout the house, were perfectly placed so that her family could enjoy them throughout the season. Penny was a very talented and creative person and it came through in many ways in everything that she did and, she did them all for her family to enjoy. While she is truly missed by her family, she has left behind beautiful memories for all to cherish and remember her by.
Penny was preceded in death by both her parents, Marcos & Gregoria Cardona, sisters, Lupe Dominguez, Elsie Cardona and Monica Castro. She is survived by sisters, Jenny Herrera and Amelia Mulberry, her brother Tino Cardona, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Samuel Henry McCreery (1940-2021)

Samuel Henry McCreery was born January 14th, 1940, in Los Angeles, California and passed away at home on June 24th, 2021, in Estes Park, Colorado. Sam grew up in Fillmore, California with his parents Dr. Samuel and Dorothy and his younger sister Sandy. He spent summers in Estes Park and Loveland Colorado working on a family dairy farm. After high school, he attended Wheaton College in Illinois, then he moved back to California and graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara in 1961. It was there that Sam met his wife, Karan Anderson. They were married in 1962.
Sam worked at Youth for Christ as a club director and was a middle school math teacher before moving to Lake Arrowhead California in 1965 to start and co-own Smooth Move Concrete Pumping Business. He was a long-time attendee of the Community Baptist Church of Lake Arrowhead where he was a music director and Sunday School teacher. Sam was also a member of the Rim of the World Unified School District Board of Trustees from 1978-1986 and served on the board of Mastermedia International. After retiring from his business, Sam worked as a Class 1 DSA inspector for concrete and steel at the Santa Ana School district. He was also a securities broker and an orange rancher at Fillmore Orange Groves.
Sam was a popular lecturer with Community Bible Study and an accomplished singer and musician with trombone and guitar. He enjoyed playing tennis and golf and pitching for his slow pitch softball team, working on his car Tilly, taking jacuzzis, eating pie and soaking up the sun. Sam read through his Bible every year and had a heart for evangelism and sharing Christ. He was an excellent Sunday morning waffle maker and enjoyed taking his grandchildren for a donut or ice cream. Sam will be remembered as generous and wise with a kind, genuine sense of humor. He was a steady presence and strong in his faith. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Karan, his daughter Liann of Riverside, California, son Steve (Anne) of Arvada, Colorado and son Paul (Cindy) of Austin,Texas, a sister Dr. Sandra Louise McCreery Huttar (David) of Nyack, New York, and eight grandchildren (Will, Ben, Sam, Sarah, Jake, Joe, Charlie and Finn.) A gravesite and memorial service will be held July 15th at 10 am at Bardsdale Cemetery in Fillmore, California followed directly by a reception at the Veterans Memorial Building in Fillmore . Daniel Cardenas Hernandez (1935-2021)

Daniel Cardenas Hernandez left this world peacefully on June 1st, 2021. He was born on October 10th, 1935 in Tonila, Jalisco, Mexico to Daniel and Guadalupe Cardenas Hernandez, he was their only child. In his teen years he enjoyed going to the local mercantile to check out the local pottery and craft, and of course the delicious food. In his early 20’s he met and married Emilia Cardenas, they later had 3 boys. They came to Fillmore, CA in “1961”. Daniel worked as a cook and later retired from the “Fillmore citrus association” which he worked for over 40 years. He enjoyed driving around Fillmore, and eating at many of our local restaurants, and socializing with friends. He was a devoted catholic his favorite Bible verse was “In the beginning God created the heaven and earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” Genesis 1:1-2. He maintained a loving household, and when he had grandkids, they were his pride and joy. Everyone was fed, loved and happy. Daniel led a full and happy life and enjoyed it right until the end. He will be remembered by all that knew him as a funny easy loving person. He is survived by his sons Ramon, Angel, Joel (Julie). His grandchildren Maria, Ray, Daniel, Gabriel, Abraham, Citlali, Sofia, Jake and his great grandchildren Starr, lucia, and Ezekiel. He will deeply be missed!

Anna Hipple (1946-2021)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Anna Hipple, 74. She passed away of a heart aneurysm on May 4, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was a wonderful and beloved wife, mother and grandmother, the matriarch of our family. She was born on October 18, 1946 in Lindsay, CA to Roy and Edna Denney. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, David and Anna married on February 1, 1969 in Lindsay, CA. They were married for 52 years and together raised three sons, Ben (Wendy), Jed (Jill), and Seth (deceased wife Kelli) and later granddaughter Ariel. One of her greatest joys in life was having her children all together with her. Anna was an incredibly gifted woman, intelligent, beautiful and devoted to those she loved the most, which was her family.She is in the presence of Jesus Christ and someday we’ll be reunited.
Our family warmly thanks those who visited, prayed, sent meals, flowers and kind messages during this very difficult time.

Ralph Manuel Davalos (1976-2021)

Ralph Manuel Davalos was born on October 12, 1976, in Ventura California.
He went home to be with our Lord and Savior on June 15, 2021, in Los Angeles County at the age of 44.
Ralph grew up in Piru California, he attended Piru Elementary School, Fillmore Middle School, and Oxnard Adult School.
Ralph was an avid reader and loved going to the Ventura County Libraries. He also loved gardening, working in his grandparents’ yard, and helping anyone in town that needed yard work done. Ralph was most proud of the Certificates he received in 2005 for the completion of Fire Fighting Training courses from the State of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Ralph was preceded in death by his Grandparents Luisa “Licha” Zavala and Jesus “Chuy” Zavala of Piru. We rejoice as a family knowing that because of our Faith, he has been reunited with his grandparents in Heaven who he loved and cherished so very much.
Ralph is survived by, his mother Gloria Zavala, his Sister Elsa Sandoval, his Niece Sophia, Aunts, Uncles, and many cousins who loved him.
Ralph’s family would like to thank Golden Legacy of Sylmar, for his care these past 5 ½ years. Our many friends and family members, who kept our family in their prayers and supported us during this difficult time.
Ralph, you have left this world of sorrow, and are free from pain and suffering, now rest in peace and comfort, in our blessed Savior’s arms.

Yvonne Mary Meyers (1923-2021)

Yvonne Meyers, a wonderful nurse, wife and mother departed her loving family on June 4, 2021, at the age of 97.
Yvonne was born in Callaway, MN on October 11, 1923 to Emile and Mary Lefevbre the 7th of 10 children. She was the last surviving child.
Yvonne was mother to Peter, Annie, Jeanne, Jim and Susan. She raised her children with love and devotion in Fillmore, CA alongside her loving husband Lucian.
All her life, Yvonne was known for her kindness. Her favorite activities included prayer and spiritual reading, cooking and floral arranging. Her Christian values shined throughout her life.
She is survived by her 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 Great-granchildren.
Yvonne will be interred next to her loving husband at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery in Oxnard, CA.

David Kevin Brown (1982-2021)

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of David Kevin Brown. David died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 30th at the age of 39, due to a terrible car accident. David was born in the City of Santa Paula, on March 29,1982, to Daniel Kevin Brown and Susan Marie Brown. Not only was David a life-long resident of Fillmore California, he also worked for the City of Fillmore and for the last 10 years, he worked for the City of Santa Paula. In addition David served for nearly 20 years as a volunteer firefighter and first responder.
David graduated from Fillmore High School in 1999, one year ahead of his class. He went on to complete his EMT training and shortly after, his certification from the Firefighter Academy in May of 2001. David was passionate about helping those in need, whether the call came from dispatch, or he was just a bystander, he was always ready to leap into action to help others. Endless stories are shared in the community of times when he heroically came to their aid.
David enjoyed a wonderful family life. He married the love of his life and his best friend, Yadira, on November 26, 2005. They shared 15 beautiful years of marriage filled with adventure, love and laughter. David’s proudest moments were becoming a father to three beautiful children Nicholas Kevin 14, John Robert 4, and Delilah Kailee 2. All three children shared the same sentiment, “Daddy is my best friend”. He was a devoted father, he took time to understand the Marvel universe and watched every film with Nick, he perfected his Mario skills to beat Bowser with Johnny, and loved having Delilah sit on his lap watching princess movies or animal videos on his phone.
David was a loving and caring son. He loved living directly across the street from his parents. When his mother Sue would leave his house, he would watch out the window until she closed the door behind her, making sure she made it home safely. Dan and David would share a beer after mowing the lawn and would find any excuse to light up the fire pit just to sit and talk about whatever was on their minds. David and his big sister Amy Marie shared a close bond. They had many friends in common, they were the life of the party. Amy was so protective of her little brother, if anyone messed with her brother, they dealt with his big sister.
David was a great and selfless man, this is more evident now than ever, the family can see how much he impacted all those in his life, at work, stores he frequented, the gym and old acquaintances. David had an infectious smile and a sense of humor that would light up any room. He was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all and a man who would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. He will always be remembered for his beautiful smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, loving embrace and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in our strong faith and in the biblical promise that we will see him again when all things are made new… (Revelation 21:1-5).

William Roy McGregor (1945-2021)

Bill McGregor departed this world on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, after a life well lived. William Roy “Bill” McGregor was born April 13, 1945, in Santa Paula, California to Harold and Ella McGregor. The third child in a citrus and cattle ranching family, Bill went on to star in track, football, and FFA for the Fillmore High School Flashes Class of 1963. He matriculated at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he joined the Army ROTC unit, nearly got kicked out over a few legendary practical jokes, studied Ag Business, drove school bus, married fellow student Linda Keener, and upon graduation took a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. After training on the Nike-Hercules Missile system, he deployed to Vietnam in 1969 where he trained South Vietnamese Army soldiers in infantry tactics. Meanwhile in his absence, the McGregor family sold the Fillmore ranch and bought a larger cattle ranch near Alder, MT. Bill returned from Vietnam in 1970 to join his folks and his own young family on the California Creek Ranch. He found a passion raising cattle and helping little calves enter the world. He was happiest while helping a frail little calf get on its feet, wag its tail, and suck milk from its mother. The family grew to 3 boys, and after the retirement of his father and sale of the ranch, Bill and Linda bought a local gas station in Twin Bridges, MT, where he also joined the volunteer fire department and Rotary International. Bill was never one to turn down a burger at the Blue Anchor Cafe, or a 20 minute conversation with a friend during a busy schedule. He delivered bulk fuel all over the Ruby Valley and expanded the business to include tires and oil. By 1984, the McGregor herd moved back to California for better economic opportunity, and settled in Clarksburg where Bill took a job as a plant foreman for Delta Sugar. After his divorce, Bill later married Jill Geissert-Menezes in 1988. They lived in Fairfield, California where he took up real estate sales and another of his passions: truck driving and building houses with Habitat for Humanity. In 2001, Bill and Jill travelled to Beijing, China to adopt a baby girl and the family grew once again. In 2008 he lost Jill to pancreatic cancer and moved with his daughter, Eileen, to Leona Valley, California. Bill spent the next 10 years raising Eileen, traveling the country, coaching youth sports, driving kids to all sorts of activities, and becoming an integral part of their tight-knit community. Bill and Eileen travelled far and wide to see all sorts of National Parks, Historic Sites, big cities, generally “beautiful countryside,” and his three sons and their families. He is survived by his sons Rob (Michelle) in Golden, CO, Iain (Farrah) in Cascade, MT, and Liam (Jaime) in Clarksburg, CA, daughter Eileen, Berkeley, CA, and his 6 grandchildren, his brother Robert of Salinas, CA, his sister Jean of Incline Village, NV, and his 7 nephews and one niece.
In his hometown of Leona Valley, Bill became the neighborhood handy-man, drove truck for several companies, and did bulldozer work to help neighbors build roads, driveways, horse arenas, round pens, and firebreaks on the brushy hills of the San Gabriel Mountains. He was always generous with his time, expertise, stories, and equipment. Helping his neighbors became his latest passion. Bill McGregor will be remembered for his big smile and “firm” handshake, his big bear hugs, an occasional prank, his skill at operating trucks and bulldozers, his ability to back up any size rig, his insistence on meticulous maintenance, unnecessarily detailed record-keeping, a depression-era packrat characteristic he inherited from his mother, the unparalleled ability to “make good time” on a long car trip, his “anytime: day-or-night” response to a friend in need, his ability to deliver a calf or doctor a horse, and his generosity and kindness to his neighbors and friends. Bill was proud of his kids, loved his friends, and was generally a heck of a good guy. A local celebration of life was held at his home during his last days. Per his wishes no memorial is planned, but his ashes will be delivered to a favorite location in the mountains of Montana.

Jesus Tarango (1931-2021)

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved father Jesus Tarango. He was a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Jesus went to our Lord in Heaven on May 9, 2021.
He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on February 5, 1931. He married the love of his life, Alicia Tarango +, on December 31, 1955. He came to the US to provide for his family. His wife surprised him later when she brought the rest of the family to the US. He worked many years to support his family. When he retired, he spent most of his time caring for his wife and grandchildren.
Jesus and his wife lived in the Fillmore area since 1968. Jesus leaves behind his children Hector, Jorge (Kelly), Ana Avila (Pablo), Javier (Lupe), Jose (Lupe), Carlos (Nanette), and 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 9:00pm on Thursday, May 27, 2021 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00pm at Church of Angels, 600 East Pleasant Street, Santa Paula, CA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Friday, May 28, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Fillmore. Due to COVID-19 guidelines the church has a limited capacity of 80 people. Interment to follow at Bardsdale Cemetery, 1698 South Sespe Street, Fillmore, CA.

Amador Roberto Reyes (1927-2021)

Roberto Reyes, of Santa Ana, California, died peacefully, though unexpectedly, at his home on April 30, 2021, from natural causes. He was 93 years old. He is survived by his wife of more than 70 years, three daughters and a son, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and millions of extended family members and friends who loved this quiet, gregarious, adventurous, and generous man.
Although born in Los Angeles, at three years old, his family relocated to Mexico, during the Mexican Repatriation. He came back to Los Angeles as a teenager and began his working career. He married Carmen in 1950. On his return from the honeymoon, Uncle Sam was waiting for him. He was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving as a jeep driver for a Major MacFarlin and as a radio operator, in Gelnhausen, Germany. While there, he was able to visit Spain and Italy, of which he talked about with fond memories.
After 2 years he returned home to meet the daughter born while he was gone. He added 3 more children to the “baby boomer” generation. To support them, in addition to working full time in metal manufacturing, he opened the Craftsman TV repair shop. Through a customer he was directed to the beginning of his “space travel” career, with a job at North American Aviation. He was substantially involved thereafter with, among other projects, the Saturn rocket program, the Gemini and Apollo space programs, and Shuttle programs, receiving many recognitions and awards for his achievements. He spent much time at the Houston Space Center. He retired from Rockwell International after more than 27 years of service. He still continued to work, this time 3 days a week for ReyCon Construction. He was their “Information Technology” guy.
In the meantime he took the family on many adventurous road trips in the 1956 Chevy wagon that he continued to own for the rest of his life. He had also become licensed as a private pilot. He logged many adventures with family and friends in his Cessna 172. He later moved on to serving with Carmen as “Support and Gear” crew, driving the support vehicle for the Santa Paula Harley team. Until the last few years of his life, he was always ready to travel to visit his relatives in Mexico, grandchildren, and friends.
Although primarily self-educated, he was an eager student of whatever presented itself to be learned. He was a voracious reader of history, especially of space, technology, and World War II. If it were not for the pandemic lock-down, he would have been signed up for classes at the Apple Store, to learn how to better use his Apple products. He was like so many young kids, in that you would be better communicating with him through text or email, rather that voice call.
An amazing and inspiring man, his most precious gift was sharing his enthusiasm for life. As a father, as a husband, as a grandfather, and as a friend, he will be missed. Hasta Lumbago, Don Roberto.
Services for Mr. Reyes will be held on May 21, 2021 at noon, at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Rd., Santa Paula, California.

Oma June Burgett (1939-2021)

Oma June (Crockett) Burgett, 81, of Fillmore, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, after a long illness. She passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side.
She was born June 30, 1939 in Wasco (Kern) CA to Perry & Opal Crockett.When she was eighteen months old her family moved to the Fillmore area; living in North Fillmore, at Rancho Sespe, and Fillmore where she remained until her death.
Her siblings are Jerry Crockett (Linda), Joan Hooten, Gail Cole (Robert) and Dale Crockett (Marsha).
Oma married William Rochell Burgett, of Santa Paula, on February 27, 1959. They had two children, Annette and William Burgett, Jr. ‘Buddy’. She was a very loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son ‘Buddy’.
Oma is survived by her daughter, Annette Cardona; grandchildren, Michael Cardona, Stephanie Cardona, Kristen Cardona, and Brittany Halcon (Bobby). She also had ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and one nephew who all adored her. She also had many great-nieces and great-nephews.
While living at Rancho Sespe, her home was considered the meeting place, her friends would come over and they would bake cookies or cakes, make fudge and popcorn.As a child, she liked to play Hopscotch, Kick-the-can, and roller skate.
Oma graduated from Fillmore High School in 1957 and was voted the ‘Craziest’ by her Senior Class.In high school she was involved in: Girls League, Girls Athletic Association 1, 2, & 3, Chorus, Office Staff, Fillmore Festival Coronation, Christmas Pageant, Commercial ClubSecretary, Tri-Y, Spring Concert, Senior Play, Exchange Assembly, Fashion Show, Girls League Assembly, Variety Show, Class Assembly, and Drill Team.Oma and her friends called themselves ‘The Pink Ladies’ and had special shirts made.
After high school, she worked as a Switch-Board operator in Santa Paula for several years. She sold ‘Sarah Coventry’ jewelry.She drove a school bus for the Fillmore Unified School District from 1968 until 1974 – she enjoyed picking up students from Rancho Sespe because it brought back many fond memories of when she lived there. She then worked for Safeway/Vons as a checker beginning in 1974, until she retired in 2002.
Oma enjoyed getting involved with her children’s school activities; volunteering in her children’s classrooms every year as Room Mother, heading the Annual Carnival held at San Cayetano School, PTA President, Brownie Leader which involved takingher troop camping at Pole Creek and working on Badges. She especially enjoyed putting on the MayPole Dance every year which performed at the May Festival. Other activities she was involved in was Fillmore Little League, Fillmore Raiders Football, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, FFA, PTA, Fillmore Booster Club and High School Pep Squad.
All of Annette and Buddy’s friends enjoyed hanging out at the Burgett home, Oma always made everyone feel welcome.
Oma loved to entertain and have family get-togethers at her home, whether it be a Bar-B-Cue, Monday Night Football, Super Bowl Sunday, or just a casual evening meal; you could always count on lots of fun, laughs, and good food; but her wonderful recipe of Chili Verde and her famous Chocolate Chip Cake topped it all.
Traveling was something Oma looked forward to. She kept a record of how many states she went through or visited; from Hawaii to Florida, according to her records there were only fourteen states that she did not get to see.
Her favorite holiday was Christmas, she would go all out decorating her home, inside and out.
Oma enjoyed life and got involved with different activities, she was on a woman’s softball team called the ‘Hit N Mrs.’, and she was also on a bowling team in Santa Paula for several years. She also liked to paint ceramics.
The annual Alumni Banquet was one event she always looked forward to, visiting with friends and catching up on their lives.
She loved to read and always had a book near-by. Her favorite television shows were ‘Law and Order’, ‘Murder She Wrote’, ‘Star Trek’, and of course, ‘Monday Night Football’ – especially if the Green Bay Packers were playing; andwhile watching, she would have a book in her hand and read during the commercials.
Oma also enjoyed listening to music, and of course, it was usually an ‘ELVIS’ record/cd playing in the background as she attended to her household chores; she was a big fan of his (with over forty records/cd’s in her collection) and was excited to be able to attend a few of his concerts.
A special ‘Thank you’ to: Pastor Dion Brooks, the Fillmore Fire Department, and her wonderful caregivers – Antonia Lopez, Jessie Valle, Elena Gomez, Jazmin Rodrigues, Gabino Garcia and Ron Imhoof. Also, Los Robles Hospice and their nurses – Christina Holladay, Francine Duran, and Kathrine Montes. All of you are Angels, so caring with hearts of gold. It takes an amazing, special, and loving person to do what you all do, there are not enough words to express how thankful we are for the care Oma received from all of you!

Theresa Maureen Hight (1953-2021)

Theresa Maureen Hight, 67, of Fillmore, CA passed away surrounded by loved ones on May 2, 2021 due to complications with her battle to lung cancer.
Theresa was born on August 18th, 1953, to Jay and Mary Theresa Hight in Santa Paula, California. Shortly after the death of her Mother, Theresa at the age of 12 was raised by her Sister and Brother In-Law, Jayne and Bobby McCary. After graduating from Newbury Park High in 1970, Theresa went on to study Architecture at the California State University of Northridge.
In 1970 Theresa met Ali-Reza (Amir) Nikoumanesh at the California State University, Northridge. They immediately hit it off and married only one year later in 1971. They moved to Ventura, California and had their first and only child, Shamsi Nikoumanesh in 1972. After the birth of Shamsi, the three of them lived in Tehran, Iran for approximately one year.
Shortly after moving back to United States, Theresa worked approximately twenty years at the family’s Television and Electronic business at Jay Hight TV, which was located under the town clock on Main Street in the city of Santa Paula. The family business of Jay Hight TV started in the 1950’s and ended in the 1990’s. Theresa truly loved working there and interacting with all patrons that ranged from the citizens of Santa Paula to all of Ventura County. Theresa also assisted her father Jay Hight with his philanthropy to the City of Santa Paula; Santa Paula High School-Football Team and students; Santa Paula Police and Fire Departments, Sant Paula Hospital, Kiwanis Club, Santa Paula Boy & Girls Club, Santa Paula & Fillmore Parades and Festivals and countless religious organizations and churches.
Theresa and Ali-Reza (Amir) divorced a few years after their wedding and then Theresa met and married Butch Maynard. Theresa and Butch Maynard were married around a decade. Shortly thereafter her divorce with Butch Maynard, Theresa meets Donald J. Lloyd. Theresa and Donald J. Lloyd were married close to thirty years and lived a few years in St. George, Utah.
When Theresa had Shamsi, she decided to dedicate her life in being a compassionate and loving mother. Theresa excelled at supporting Shamsi in her academics and inspired Shamsi to pursue a career in Medical Coding and Healthcare Management for which Shamsi attended Dixie State University. Theresa and Shamsi had Unbreakable bond with each other and were not only Mother and Daughter, they were sincerely best friends.
In November 2004, Theresa’s one and only grandchild, Dante Alcaraz was born, he truly was her pride and joy. Theresa was passionate about being a Grandmother to Dante and truly adored and spoiled him. She was there for his academic, musical and sports events with glowing honor and praising him with all his milestones and accomplishments.
When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness for all, she could be found making delicious meals, barbeques, and baked goods in her kitchen, she also loved making quilts and crafts and giving them to her loved ones. Theresa had a contagious laugh and a sweet deposition. Theresa supported her family through the many passions and difficulties of their lives, she made it her mission to improve the lives of others. We will miss her greatly.
Theresa was a wonderful Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Sister In-Law, Aunt, Great Aunt to members of the Hight, Stroud, McCary, Ramirez, Maynard, Cabral, Nikoumanesh and Lloyd families. Theresa was predeceased by her Father and Mother, Jay & Mary Hight; Brother, Buddy Hight; Sister, Jayne McCary; Niece Holly Hight. She is survived by her Daughter, Shamsi Nikoumanesh and long life confidant Samuel Greer III; Grandson, Dante Alcaraz; Brothers-Joseph Stroud and Jimmy Hight, Sister-In Laws: Sue Maynard, Terry Hight, Susan Stroud, Linda Hight, Sharon Seabaugh-Beckman, Louis Hight; Brother-In Law: Bobby McCary. Nieces- Kelly Hight, Cyndi and husband David Ramirez, Tuesday Dawn Hight, Tricia Stroud; Nephews- Sean & Justin Hight, Robbie and wife Sheri McCary, Mikey McCary and girlfriend Leona Palmateer, Scotty Hight, Adam Stroud and many more Great Nieces and Nephews.
Visitation will be from 3:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Chapel within the Perez Family Funeral Home, 600 Central Avenue in Fillmore, California. On the following day, Saturday, May 22, 2021, a final private visitation for her direct family will begin at 8:30am. To follow, a General Public visitation will begin at 9:00am-10:00am, funeral services will start at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Road in Santa Paula at 12:00pm.

Barbara Lynn Mozley (1927-2021)

Barbara Mozley, 94, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2021. She was a beloved homemaker and long time resident of Fillmore, CA.
Surviving family members include her children Melissa (Jim) Coleman, Matt (Corinna), Joel (Becky), and Jim (Kang Mi/Joy) Mozley, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Charles Mozley, parents, Ray and Mary Tolerton, and brothers James and Frank Tolerton.
Born in Oakland, CA on March 20, 1927, the family soon moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where she spent much of her youth. They eventually moved to Burbank, CA, and in 1945 she graduated from Burbank High School. It was there that she first met her future husband. After WWII and Charlie's return to Burbank, she and Charlie reconnected. They appeared in a play together with a local theater group, and the relationship grew from there.
Throughout the years, Barbara held various jobs and was a runway model for a top Los Angeles agency. Glendale City College is where she intended to pursue a degree in nursing, but marriage and motherhood soon took precedence.
In March of 1948, she and Charlie married making their home in Burbank. Two years later their first child was born. They would soon move to Barstow, CA where Charlie got his first teaching job. After a year in the desert they hoped to return to Burbank. Instead, Charlie accepted a teaching position at Fillmore High School. They made their move to Fillmore with their growing family and remained there until their passing.
Barbara was devoted to her family and never forgot a birthday or special event. She will be remembered for her keen sense of humor, her spontaneous and inquisitive nature, and sharing stories of life in Burbank/Hollywood. Her travels included family vacations to Sequoia, the coast and visiting her children and their families. Barbara was a member of the Fillmore Ebell Club, Ventura County Women's Symphony League, FHS Faculty Wives group, bridge groups and attended several local churches. She and Charlie enjoyed evenings out to hear their favorite musicians perform in Ventura and Glendale. In recent years, luncheons with the Senior Bulldogs, a Burbank High School Alumni group, was a highlight for her.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who cared for our mom for the last four years: her caretaker Heidi, the staff at Greenfield Care Center, Buena Vista Hospice and her wonderful neighbors.
A graveside service will be held at Bardsdale Cemetery on Friday, May 21, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sunrise United Methodist Church, 150 S. 356th St., Federal Way, WA 98003 8650.

Theresa “Pat” Chaveste (1925-2021)

Theresa “Pat” Chaveste passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her beautiful outstanding family on March 16th, 2021 at the age of 95.
Pat was born on May 29th 1925 on Camulos Ranch in Piru to Dolores and Theresa Alcozar. She was 1 of 8 children in her family. She enjoyed spending time with her siblings playing music and singing.
In her early 20’s she met the love of her life Frank “Kiko” Chaveste. She was excited to receive her love letters from Frank over the next few years while he was in the Army. They married on January 16th 1950. She and Frank resided in Fillmore where he built a home for her and filled it with 9 children, and numerous grandchildren. She also took care of our “Mama Teddy” in their home. This brought her pure joy, and many precious memories that she shared with us. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister to her family. It was her pleasure and joy to play piano at family gatherings and wherever she saw one. She always had hot food on the stove and embraced everyone with hugs, kisses and her smile when they walked through her front door. She had a way to make each and everyone feel unconditionally loved and special. Her touch, voice, stories, laughs and wisdom will be deeply missed. Her legacy will forever be in our hearts, memories, and carried on.
She is survived by her 1 brother Lupe Alcozar, and 9 children Patsy (Sam) Torres, Frank Chaveste, Jack Chaveste, Mary Ann (David) Gomez, Carolyn (Jesse) Zuniga, CeceliaChaveste, Alfred (Celia) Chaveste, Yvonne (David) Montes, Julian (Michelle) Chaveste. 27 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank, parents, siblings and great-great-granddaughter Nia.
A Rosary will be recited at 10:00am on Friday, April 30th, 2021 with a Funeral Mass to begin at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1048 Ventura Street in Fillmore, California. Interment to follow at Bardsdale Cemetery, 1698 South Sespe Street in Fillmore, California.

Richard "Dick" Purves (1932-2021)

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dad, Richard "Dick" Purves, on February 28, 2021.He passed away at home, with our mother, Barbara by his side.
Dad was born on June 1, 1932 in Fillmore, CA to James and Virginia Purves.
The family lived in Lancaster, CA for some years and then moved to Fillmore where he lived out his life. And oh what a life he lived. He was a young hell raiser, an oil field worker, a heavy equipment operator, a rancher, a farmer, a vegetable gardener, a leatherworker, a creator of horseshoe art and so much more.
Dick and Barb were married for 59 years, sharing life's adventures, and raising us kids. They raised us to be strong, respectful, adventurous and ornery; and instilled in us a great love for country life and the great outdoors. We spent summers camping and fishing, at rodeos and parades with Foxy, his mule. There were big bbq's with lots of family and friends, with laughter and storytelling and pulling pranks on the kids.
Dad loved hunting; so much so that Mom and Dad rarely spent their anniversary together, because it was hunting season and there was a BIG buck out there calling his name. He loved fishing trips, cattle roundups, visiting with friends far and near, Vegas runs and lunches and dinners at Piru Petroleum Club.
Most days he could be found at home tending his garden, tinkering in garage, picking avocados for his buddies, making jerky, dried tomatoes and bananas, cooking chili Verde, and watching sports and westerns.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Virginia, his brother Jim, and his sons Rick and Mark.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, children Vicki Murphy (Tom), Ed Purves (Robyn), Pam Purves (Robert) and Sheri Marlow; grandchildren Derek, Tomlyn and Ian Murphy, Logan (Amie)and Walter Marlow, and Tyler Bode; great grandchildren Sabrina and Perrin Marlow.
Dad enjoyed life and loved his family and friends with all his heart. We thank you all for being a part of his life and ours.
