Fillmore Fire Educates Rio Vista Students

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, in an ongoing effort to fulfill its mission to develop high-performing students who are engaged and productive members of society, Fillmore Unified School District’s Rio Vista Elementary welcomed the Fillmore Fire Department to educate Transitional Kindergarten students about fire safety. Rio Vista Elementary Principal Beverly Garnica said, “Thank you Fillmore Fire Department for visiting our Transitional Kindergarten students. Fire Destroys Empty Structure

On Tuesday, February 13, at noon, firefighters arrived one the scene of a two-story residential structure fire in the 3900 block of Guiberson Road, near Piru. Crews reported heavy fire conditions and a second alarm was dispatched. The fire was knocked down and investigators were searching for the cause. Primary search was all clear in the vacant structure and there were no personnel injuries. Fire crews stayed on-scene for hours mopping up and cooling all hot spots. DUI & Motorcycle Crash on Hwy 126

On Sunday, February 11, at 8:24 p.m., Fillmore Police, Fillmore City Fire, and AMR Paramedics were dispatched to a reported traffic collision in front of El Dorado Mobile Homes, 200 block Ventura Street. Arriving deputies found a female motorcyclist down with a broken arm and femur injury, and an SUV involved. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital, and the driver of the vehicle was placed under arrest for driving under the influence; he was booked at the Ventura County Main Jail facility. Sex Registrant Compliance Sweep

On Saturday, February 3, 2024, Sheriff’s detectives conducted compliance checks at the residences of thirty-four (34) registered sex offenders throughout the City of Fillmore and the surrounding unincorporated areas. The compliance checks were funded through the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE / ELEAS) program.

Thirty-two (32) of the sex registrants were confirmed to be in compliance with their registration requirements. Two (2) were not contacted because they were either not home or had moved. Sheriff’s detectives will follow-up to determine if the two registrants not contacted are out of compliance.

The Sheriff’s Office aggressively pursues prosecution of those sex registrants who fail to comply
with their registration requirements. Detectives will be conducting similar sweeps on an ongoing
basis to verify the registered sex offenders in our community are living at their reported residences and remain in compliance with any probation or parole terms. Residents of Ventura County can visit the Megan’s Law website (www.meganslaw.ca.gov) to familiarize themselves with the sex registrants in their community.
